Chickens! 14 Rhode Island Red dual purpose birds – 2 are roosters. The plan is to raise some for eggs, some for meat. So far the egg production is going well but the meat production has not begun yet. We either need a hen to go broody, which has not happened yet, or we need to get an incubator.
We have the veggie garden and potato plot both planted this year, with much help from a friend who wanted some space for his veggies! I made him a deal, free space in exchange for preparing the veggie garden. Well prepare it they did and now I am able to have a small harvest this year (hopefully!)
To earn a few pennies from the homestead side of things we are selling eggs for $5/dz or $7/18 and we are using our mobile greenhouse to grow a few plants for sale. Lettuce plants are ready to go! $3ea for a living lettuce in a 4” pot! Contact us to purchase or come visit us at the Strathmore Farmers Market June 11th!
